I am a member of a state recognized tribe, am I eligible to apply for this funding?

No. Cherokee Nation is only accepting applications from members of federally recognized tribes and citizens (tribal and non-tribal) residing within the Cherokee Nation Reservation as eligible beneficiaries. You are encouraged to review the list of funded organizations on the USDA site to determine the program that best fits your situation: https://www.ams.usda.gov/services/grants/ffwr/awards.

If I contract my services to a farm am I eligible?

No. Per the USDA FFWR Program guidelines, eligible beneficiaries do not include agricultural service workers. Agricultural Service is defined by NASS as any farm-related service performed on a farm or ranch on a contract or fee basis. This primarily includes activities performed by contract workers on fruit, vegetable, or berry operations. It also includes custom work, veterinarian work, artificial insemination, sheep shearing, milk testing, or any other farm-related activity performed on a farm or ranch on a "fee per service" basis.

What are the types of eligible workers?

Types of eligible workers include:

Field Workers

Employees engaged in planting, tending, harvesting crops, and post-harvest activities such as packing, grading, and sorting, and operation of farm machinery on crop farms.

Livestock Workers

Employees tending livestock, milking cows, or caring for poultry, including operation of farm machinery on livestock or poultry operations.

Meatpacking Workers

Employees engaged in livestock slaughter, meat or poultry processing, and packaging.

Documented work must fall into one of the categories, listed below, to be considered eligible work.

What dates are considered within the pandemic period?

Per the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the pandemic (COVID-19 public health emergency) has been declared as over. The official dates of declaration for the pandemic are January 27, 2020 through May 11, 2023.

What do I do if I uploaded the wrong documents?

Please contact 918-453-5058 for any application and submission inquiries. All issues will be reviewed by FFWR staff and applicants will be reached at the contact information provided on their applications for any application corrections.

What do I do if I was only paid in cash from my employer?

An employment verification letter can be provided for proof of employment if a W2, 1099, or paystubs cannot be provided.

What documents can I upload to show proof of employment?

Cherokee Nation is only accepting the following documents for proof of employment: W2, 1099 (only applicable if non-contractor/owner), paystub, or employment verification letter dated within the pandemic period –January 27, 2020 through May 11, 2023.
